Why is the nitiFilter® more reliable than a standard filter?

Have you ever asked yourself if your oil filter is reliable? I would guess you haven’t… But oil quality depends on the quality of the filter!

Oil filters remove contaminants from the oil before they can damage engine components. Standard filters are made from paper impregnated with phenolic resin. The nitiFilter® is made from high-quality aluminum, with a stainless steel filtration medium. But that’s not the only difference between the two. Filtration with a standard filter, even when it’s new, is just average. Explanation: paper filters are made from compressed fibers, the openings in them through which the oil passes are irregular because they aren’t standardized. This is also the reason why, for example, a filter that is labeled 20 µm has only a 50% efficiency rating for filtering 20 µm particles (i.e. it filters only half of them). The filtration process is based on particles being blocked as they pass through the fibrous layer. This is what is called depth filtration. This kind of filter becomes more and more “efficient” over time, in that it collects particles and becomes clogged. But watch out: too many particles = a stopped up filter. It is therefore clear that filtration capacity varies greatly over time.

The nitiFilter® filtration medium is made of woven stainless steel with a precise and consistent mesh that guarantees particle filtration quality inline with ISO standard 4783*. This is what is commonly called surface filtration. The advantage of this type of filtration is that it remains effective from the beginning to the end of the process. Standard filters have a by-pass valve or diverter in the lubrication circuit, which allows the oil to keep circulating if the filter is clogged, or if the oil is too viscous and cannot pass easily through the filter. When the filter is too dirty, it clogs and the by-pass valve opens. Unfiltered oil then begins to flow into the engine, potentially contaminating clean oil and compromising engine lubrication. This can cause premature wear.

The nitiFilter® is constantly cleaned by a counter-current of filtered oil, so there is not clogging and therefore no need for a by-pass filter.

The nitiFilter® eliminates the need for oil changes. Without oil changes, it is possible to get a better idea of malfunctions that arise from the engine or other parts, and to anticipate these problems. How? Oil changes can hide problems: oil is replaced artificially, removing the possibility of catching potential anomalies.
